Naga bridge, Prasat Phimai

The Naga bridge, a sandstone structure in the shape of cross, extends from the southern entrance gate of the temple complex to entrance gopura. Measuring 4 meters wide 31.7 meters long, and standing 2.5 meters high, the bridge features three staircase for stone railings adorned with seven-headed Naga Serpents faceting all four directions.

The Khmer art in style of Angkor Wat is further embellished with intricate carvings the bridge is unique to the southern entrance, and it presence reflects about Buddhist and Hindu beliefs. The Naga symbolizes the bridge connecting the human world to the heavens.        

สะพานพญานาคซึ่งมีโครงสร้างเป็นหินทรายเป็นรูปกากบาททอดยาวจากประตูทางเข้าด้านทิศใต้ของบริเวณวัดไปจนถึงทางเข้าโคปุระ สะพานแห่งนี้มีขนาดกว้าง 4 เมตร ยาว 31.7 เมตร สูง 2.5 เมตร มีบันได 3 ขั้นสำหรับราวบันไดหินประดับด้วยงูนาคเจ็ดเศียรที่หันหน้าไปทางทั้งสี่ทิศทาง

ศิลปะเขมรในรูปแบบของนครวัดได้รับการประดับเพิ่มเติมด้วยการแกะสลักอย่างประณีตสะพานนี้เป็นเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะของทางเข้าด้านทิศใต้ และสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความเชื่อของชาวพุทธและฮินดู พญานาคเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของสะพานเชื่อมโลกมนุษย์สู่สวรรค์
